What paver sealing actually does — and why it matters in Florida.

Pavers are one of the most popular hardscape choices in St Johns County, Nocatee, and Ponte Vedra. Driveways, pool decks, front entries, and back patios are built with them because they look great and handle Florida's expansion and contraction cycle better than a solid concrete slab. But pavers are not maintenance-free. After two or three Florida summers — with UV exposure, heavy rain, humidity, organic debris, and foot traffic — the joint sand erodes, weeds take hold, the color fades, and the surface starts to hold stains.

Paver sealing is the process that corrects all of that. First the surface is pressure washed to remove organic buildup, stains, and old sealer residue. Then any missing or damaged joint sand is replaced with polymeric sand, which hardens when wetted and resists ants and weeds. Finally, a penetrating or film-forming sealer is applied to protect the paver surface, lock in the color, and make the surface easier to maintain going forward.

The full paver sealing process: what's included.

  • Pre-clean: Low-to-medium pressure wash to remove mold, mildew, staining, organic debris, and any failed sealer.
  • Joint inspection: Assess joint sand condition and check for displacement, washout, or weed root penetration.
  • Polymeric sand application: Fill all joints with fresh polymeric sand and compact it properly before wetting.
  • Sealer application: Apply one or two coats of the selected sealer — wet-look, natural-look, or matte — depending on the paver type and homeowner preference.
  • Cure time and walkthrough: Allow cure time per product specs, then walk the completed surface before wrapping up.

Wet-look vs. natural-look vs. matte sealer — which is right for your pavers?

The sealer choice affects the final appearance more than anything else in the process. Wet-look sealers intensify the color and give the surface a slight sheen — popular for driveway pavers and pool decks where a polished look is preferred. Natural-look sealers protect the surface without changing the color or finish, which works well for travertine and lighter pavers where the natural stone appearance should be preserved. Matte sealers fall between the two — they protect fully but keep a flat, non-reflective surface.

Kolby walks through the options at the time of quote so you know exactly what the surface will look like before the sealer goes down. There are no surprise finishes.

Paver sealing for pool decks, driveways, and patios in St Johns County.

The most common paver sealing jobs in the area are pool deck pavers in Nocatee and Ponte Vedra, driveway pavers in Julington Creek and Rivertown, and front entry and patio pavers throughout St Johns and St Augustine. Each surface type has different traffic loads and sun exposure, which affects both the sealer choice and the re-sealing schedule. As a general rule, Florida pavers should be re-sealed every two to three years depending on sun exposure, traffic, and how well the previous sealer held up.

If your pavers have weeds growing in the joints, visible sand loss, a chalky white haze (efflorescence), or have simply lost the color they had when installed — this is the service that resets all of that. You can also see driveway cleaning if your concrete surfaces need attention at the same time.
